Exterior Staging: Landscaping Maintenance
With spring just around the corner my thoughts naturally turn to the outdoors. As a home stager, I am of course concerned with the exterior of the homes I am staging, after all this is the "First Impression Point" and therefore critical. Without curb appeal buyers will just drive on by. In my part of the world, due to the prolonged winters and near constant snow cover, much of that is slightly ignored during the winter but it is now critical for home sellers to start paying more attention to the landscaping. If you do not have the time of energy to do the work your self then hire it out to professionals. Even contracting a landscaper for a day can may a huge difference in the properties curb appeal.
I just heard an interesting talk by one of our local landscapers at one of my network marketing groups. One idea among the many points that he made during his talk that stood out for me was his advice that a home owner should figure on spending about 10% of the cost of any given landscaping project on proper maintenance. Often this is a step, many home sellers fail to do, and so by the time they get ready to sell their home the landscaping may be starting to look pretty sad. Convincing them to spend money on landscaping may be a tough sell but it is such a huge problem that will turn away many potential buyers that it is imperative that they be advised to invest the money on. As a stager, I feel it is part of my job to give an opinion to the home seller on all aspects of what needs to done to their property to make it more saleable. This may seem like an expression of the obvious but given the number of homes I see where this is ignored, I think it is worth repeating. Read the article here
